Dale Washburn
Biography

Professional - Personal - Public Service

Professional

Dale saw firsthand the value of responsibility and hard work as he grew up in the construction and development business of his Father. He worked at other part time jobs while in High School and College. The work ethic developed from this experience continues to influence him as he works as the Principal Broker of Washburn & Associates, a Real Estate Brokerage firm.

Dale has worked for thirty years in the real estate business. He is a Licensed Instructor, and teaches Real Estate Pre-Licensing and Post-Licensing courses at Macon State College. He also teaches courses in Ethics for Realtor associations around the state of Georgia. He served on the Middle Georgia Regional Development Commission and the Macon Area Transportation Study Committee. He was elected to the Jones County Commission, serving as vice-chair for his four year term.

He has been active in the Middle Georgia Realtor Association for 30 years, serving as President of the Middle Georgia Association and as Vice-President of the Georgia Association of Realtors. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Realtors.

In 1992 Dale was named the Middle Georgia Association of Realtors Realtor of the year. In 2004 he was honored as the Georgia Realtor of the Year.

Several years ago a colleague suggested Dale look into teaching real estate courses. Dale took up the challenge, discovered how much he enjoyed teaching, and has since taught hundreds of real estate professionals in the Middle Georgia area.

Personal

Dale Washburn was born and grew up in middle Georgia.

He readily says that one of the greatest blessings in his life was having a Godly Father and Mother. His Father, Reverend Roy Washburn, is a Baptist Minister. He has spent his career in a bi-vocational capacity, operating his construction business and serving as Pastor of small churches that could not afford to pay a full time Pastor.

His Mother, Betty, is retired as a Teacher’s Aide with the Jones County School System and has served alongside Dale’s Father in his career as a bi-vocational Baptist Minister.

When he was sixteen years old, he asked Donna Reeves of Macon to the church Valentine Banquet. Eight years later, she became his wife. Donna is a graduate of Wesleyan College and is Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Mount De Sales Academy. They have been married for thirty years and have four children.

Their oldest son, Casey is the General Manager of Washburn & Associates. Casey is married to the former Robyn Jones of Macon, who teaches at Dames Ferry Elementary School.

Their son, Brad, is an FDIC Compliance Specialist with Steve H. Powell & Company. Brad resides in Statesboro.

Their daughter, Melissa, recently graduated from Georgia College and State University with an Early Education degree. She is a First Grade teacher in the Crawford County school system.

Their youngest son, Ben, is at Georgia Tech studying Civil Engineering.

Being a Father (and now a grandfather) has been a major part of Dale’s life. He often says that:

“God gives us two major jobs to do while we are on this earth. First, we are to take care of our parents as long as they are here. They deserve it for all they have done and it is the right thing to do."

"Of equal importance, we are to take care of our children and to prepare them for a productive life. If we are successful, our children will know how to go and raise their children when the time comes. That is the way God intended it to be."

"Many of the problems in our society are a result of people falling down on those two major responsibilities.”

Public Service & Politics

Dale has been interested in politics and public service since he was a young man. When he was thirty four, he ran for and was elected to the Jones County Commission, serving as Vice Chairman for four years. During that time Dale confronted many of the problems facing a county in transition. He fought hard to enhance Planning and Zoning, improve development standards, implement building codes and expand the County Water System.

The boom in development that Jones County enjoys today is partly due to his efforts twenty years ago.

He has been active in the political arena as a Realtor at both the State Legislature and in the US Congress. He also waged two very active campaigns - one for the state House, and another for the state Senate.
